Restoring a Collapsed Bite and Worn Teeth with Orthodontics and Ceramic Crowns

Patient Information
This patient presented with severe tooth wear and erosion, which had caused his bite to collapse and his teeth to become significantly shortened.
The wear occurred from a combination of frictional forces due to an unstable bite (mechanical wear) and acid erosion (chemical wear), which can occur from dietary acids or intrinsic factors such as reflux.
In addition, the patient had crowding of the lower front teeth, which contributed to instability in the bite. Before restoring the teeth, we used SureSmile clear aligner therapy to gently straighten the lower teeth and create a more stable foundation for the final restorations.
After orthodontic alignment, we determined the ideal vertical dimension of the patient’s bite and designed a new smile that harmonized with his facial features. Custom ceramic crowns were placed on most of the patient’s teeth to rebuild the worn enamel, restore proper bite function, and protect the teeth from future wear and erosion.
By lengthening the teeth and carefully designing the smile, we restored both strength and aesthetics, giving the patient a stable bite, healthier teeth, and a confident smile.
